Giving to the church
It costs around £180,000 every year to run St Peter’s Church, Prestbury and St John’s Church , Adlington.
Contrary to what is often said, parishes receive no direct central funding from the Church of England or from their Diocese. Indeed, of our £180,000 expenditure, over £60,000 must be paid to the Diocese of Chester each year as our “Parish Share” In return, the diocese pays clergy stipends, pension contributions and national insurance, other costs such as the vicarage, as well as providing some administrative services.
We have to pay directly from income all other expenses to run the Parish including: utilities bills, church and churchyard maintenance, rental of the Parish Office, support for worship, music and choirs, etc. We also support several charities every year.
The chart below shows our annual costs:
Every year, around £135,000 (including Gift Aid) is received from individual giving, either through regular giving or collections, with the remainder obtained from fees from weddings and funerals and also from some fund-raising activities.
Normally our income just covers our ongoing costs, but with little to spare.
Every donation helps, no matter how small.
