A joyful sound to the Lord

“When you sing well, you pray twice”, so said St Augustine. In which case we would probably please him, for we have many fine opportunities to make music in worship, as well as simply singing in the congregation.

With two choirs, a music group and a young person’s group, there’s ample opportunity for anyone with a passion for music. From traditional Anglican choral music to the latest contemporary worship song – if it’s good music, we’ll make it!

All our choirs and groups welcome new members. It’s a great way to make new friends in church, to focus on something that really takes you out of normal day-to-day concerns, and it’s a wonderful way to worship God.

Cathedral singing

Both the adults and girls choirs visit one of our cathedrals each summer and sing the daily services while the cathedral choirs are on holiday. This is an immense privilege as well as an unforgettable experience. In 2012 the adults sang at Winchester and the girls sang at Gloucester.

In 2011 the Parish Choir visited Durham Cathedral

Adult Choir

Parish Adult Choir

The classic mix of sopranos, altos, tenors and basses, we sing a wide range of traditional and modern Anglican choral music for Holy Communion, Evensong, Matins, special services and other events. It’s a welcoming group – choir practice is always followed by gathering in the pub!

Girls Choir

Bell Ringers

Girls Choir

A thriving mix of sopranos and altos sing two-part music, bothfor worship and for annual social events. Girls normally join in year 7 and continue until they’ve finished their A-levels. Lots of social activities add to this being a very warm and friendly group.

Music Group

Music group

Making more contemporary music, this group currently comprises a combination of keyboard, guitars, flute, clarinet, violin and voices – but we enjoy the challenge of adding different instruments.

Bell ringers

The unmistakeable sound that draws us into church, our bell ringing team tolls joyfully at the start of our mid-morning worship, special services anBell Captaind for many weddings. They also have a set of handbells, which particularly come into their own for Prestbury Street Parties.
