Vicar's Thoughts

This week schools started back - for one day at least, there were new shoes polished and shining, uniform labelled and un-muddied, P.E. bags with a complete kit, pens, rulers and all un-lost and unbroken...
The start of the new school year opens the door to many new opportunities and new beginnings. Some are bigger changes: the move to a new school or maybe getting the bus or train for the first time. Some changes are smaller: a new teacher, new people in the class, a new uniform to wear - new subjects and new choices.
Christianity is about new beginnings, some smaller some bigger, but often we try to change a faith that is all about change, into the opposite.
God, when we allow him to work in our lives, cleans and polishes us - he encourages and empowers us to discard the behaviours that are not of the kingdom and to let go of wrong attitudes and priorities. He nudges us to take up new habits, new behaviours as we swap the world's curriculum for the Kingdom of God's curriculum. If we were getting high marks on the old curriculum there needs to be a lot of letting go of old learning as well as taking on board the new.
So it is not just those starting a new school year who should grasp the opportunity of new beginnings. All of us can welcome new friends into Church, all can try new types of worship or different services, all of us can offer offer our gifts and say 'yes!'  to new opportunities to serve Christ and strengthen His church.

Bellringers' Open Daybell day 1

The Bellringers of St Peter's held a very successful tower open-day on the afternoon of Sunday 29th August. Between 20 and 30 visitors were shown the bells being rung and with live video camera links to the bell chamber. Visitors were given a history on English change ringing and invited to have a go 'chiming' the treble bell.
bell day 2A number of the attendees expressed a wish to learn to ring and these people will be contacted to follow up this interest. Many thanks to all who joined us for the afternoon and to the ringers and Church PCC who allowed this exciting event to take place.

From the start of September the pattern of worship will be as outlined below. There will no longer be a traffic light system in operation for services, those who want to wear a mask or be socially-distanced can do so, however seating restrictions have now been removed. Services will not be returning to the Norman Chapel for Sunday or Wednesday worship until everyone is comfortable without their masks in services.

After service refreshments will return on Wednesdays from the start of September. As for refreshments on a Sunday, hopefully we will have gathered volunteers and a new rota will be in operation by the start of October.

Children are welcome at all services: there will be Young Church on the first Sunday, Family Service on the second Sunday and Breakfast Church (9.30am) on the third Sunday - all these Services make different and special provisions for our children and families.

The Launch of Prestbury Artisan market -Artisan 4
Sunday 12th September

It's over a decade since St Peter's launched the first Prestbury Christmas Street Fayre to bring the community together and encourage the local businesses, and so we were delighted to hear of plans for the launch of The Prestbury Artisan Market on Sunday 12th September. Lisa explains more below:

Popping up on Parrot's Field, this new event will showcase 40 unique stalls offering local artisan food, drink, arts and craft. Over the last few months, at the request of local members of the village and retailers, we have been working alongside Prestbury Parish Council and Cheshire East to bring an artisan market to the village located on Parrot's Field. Artisan 5The aim of the event is to bring the community together and to promote and support local businesses and independent traders. This will be an event of quality and creativity, an event which is family friendly and which involves local community projects and charities.
Independent Street champions independent businesses and produce. It aims to provide a platform for small businesses to showcase to their local community. Lisa Cowley from Independent Street says ''I am delighted to have been asked to deliver a fantastic community event for Prestbury showcasing many local businesses. I grew up in Prestbury and my family home is here. I am very excited to Artisan 2create an event for our beautiful village which local residents and my family and friends can enjoy."
Pop along and join us, it is a superb opportunity to find out the origins of your food, meet our makers and bakers, feast your eyes upon some goodies and fill those shopping bags whilst indulging in some good conversations with our team and stall holders. There is something for the whole family to enjoy! Expect… pie producers, cheese makers, olives and mezze, handmade arts and crafts, local artisan gins, tasty cakes, artisan soaps and shaving products, handmade candles, gourmet doggie treats and much more... We hope to see you there!
