A bit about Our Bells and Peals
St Peter’s church is very fortunate in having a lovely peal of 8 bells, recast by Taylors Bell foundry of Loughborough in 1968 from a peal originally cast in 1820. The heaviest bell, the tenor, weighs 14 cwt (about 0.75 ton). This sounds a lot but they are attached to large wooden wheels in the English style which means even a teenager can learn to handle a bell.
Royal events and events of National importance are usually marked with special pieces of ringing. There may be peals which consist of 3 hours of continuous ringing or quarter peals which are 45 minutes. We also have handbells for Carols and festive tunes at Christmas.
